Unanswered Prayer

It is truly a spiritually mature person who never considers a prayer unanswered. How do they do that? There is a lot of stuff in life that just seems to happen, regardless of how much you pray.

Our daughter, a 23 year old, special needs young woman, dreams of so many things in her life. She wants what we all want....happiness in life. But the challenges she faces are larger than any you can imagine.

I remember when she was born. At 1 1b, 7 oz, she was born 3 months early. The doctors said she wouldn't see, hear, and probably would have cerebral palsy. But after she was home for about a month we knew the doctors were wrong. Today she hears, (although I know she has selective hearing based on the number of chores she's supposed to be doing), she sees out of one eye, and doesn't have cerebral palsy. But developmentally she is delayed and life is hard for her.

I've prayed for our daughter more than any other person in my life. I've prayed that she would be healed completely. I've prayed that she would receive wisdom and strength and the ability to discern in life situations. It seems like many of those prayers have gone unanswered. But are they really unanswered or is God using our daughter's life to stretch my faith?

Everyone has people in their life that God uses to make changes in them. I can honestly say our daughter is that person for me. In fact, some days I feel like He's inventoried me, found every imaginable defective part, and then sends in my daughter to help "bring them out of me". It's that "bringing out" part that causes the trouble.

I heard Joyce Meyer, one of my favorite teachers, say that we always pray for God to change our circumstances when God actually uses our circumstances to change us. I must say that yes, I've been changed. God has used our daughter's situation to develop patience, (at least most days), trust, and faith that He's got a plan no matter how things look.

OK, so I've asked God if I can give Him input about how the plan should turn out. And yes, I've asked Him to send a timetable just so we're all on the same page..... I'm pretty sure I saw God rolling His eyes about that last one.

There is a currently a song by Mercy Me called, "Bring the Rain". When I first heard that song I couldn't even imagine how much spritual maturity to takes for someone to sing,

Bring me joy, bring me peace

Bring the chance to be free

Bring me anything that brings You glory

And I know there'll be days

When this life brings me pain

But if that's what it takes to praise You

Jesus, bring the rain.

I don't know many people who are at that place in their journey. As I see my faith stretched daily, I hope I can eventually come to the place where I can say, "God, I want what You want. If what I want isn't what You want, then change my mind."

Positive Attitude

Why is it so much easier to have a negative attitude than a positive one? What's inside you that just naturally pulls you to the negative side of things?

You read the books, you attend the seminars, you buy the tapes.....and things seem to go well for awhile. You feel better, your outlook is better, and you're hopeful. That is.....until something happens that sends you reeling all over again.

It doesn't even have to be a major, catastrophic event to send you back to the land of negative thinking. It can be something as simple as someone cutting you off in traffic or pushing ahead of you in the grocery checkout line. What gives those seemingly simple occurrences of every day life so much power to literally throw you into a tizzy all over again?

Negative attitudes come from negative thoughts that come from reactions to negative behavior....and around the cycle goes. And you must know that none of this negative stuff is coming from God. There is nothing negative about the way He thinks or acts.

This never ending cycle continues because the source is never addressed. You "try hard" to be positive, attempting to over-ride how you truly feel. It's work pretending to be positive when inside you know all too well that it won't take long and one of those annoying life issues is going to creep up and dump all over your positive attitude.

So how do you put a stop to all this nonsense? How do you get to a place where your positive attitude is what's natural for you and not the other way around?

I wish I could give you a magic formula that, when applied correctly, would erase your negative attitude in 3 days. Yup, can't you just see the infomercial on a product like that? For just $19.95 you can have all your dreams come true. What a bargain! People would be lining up for this one.

But alas....the real world isn't quite so simple. But the good news is that there are some things you can do to help you transition from the land of negativity to a much more positive place.

First, focus on what you're thinking about.

Remember when I said you seem stuck because you've never addressed the source of all of this? All your negative actions are coming from your negative thoughts. Your body goes right along with whatever your mind is telling it.

It is possible to control your thoughts, regardless of what you've been led to believe. As soon as a negative thought comes into your mind, purposefully make it a point to replace it with a positive one. At first, this may take some work, because chances are, you will probably have alot more negative thoughts in your head than positive ones. But eventually, that ratio will reverse itself.

Second, stop letting other people's negative attitudes influence yours.

This may mean you need to stop hanging around with people who do nothing but spout negative stuff. You can't afford it when your goal is to become more positive. The negative people in your life aren't going to like it when you will no longer participate. Just remember that birds of a feather really do flock together.

Third, make a list of all the areas in your life that you want to change.

List all your negative attitudes too. If you can't really think of things to put on your list, just ask your family. I'll bet they'll help you make it a REALLY LONG list.

Fourth, take the time to write strong, life-giving, positive affirmative statements.

Make a commitment to read those statements out loud every day. Enjoy how great they make you feel. Know in your heart that you're making progress, even if you can't see it just yet. Just keep affirming the positive.

Lastly, take the time to pray about this.

You can't change by yourself. But you can spend time with the One who can help. You do what you can, and you let God do the rest. It really IS that simple.

This process will change how you think and that's the real key to changing how you act. Remember.....your body will follow right behind your thoughts. There is no way to separate the two, so you might as well "program in" what you want instead of randomly leaving it to chance.

Just know that God's version of right attitudes don't contain anything negative. And if you want God's best for your life, it starts with right thoughts.....His thoughts to be exact.

My name is Job Thomas also known as Joji. I am born and brought up in my home in Mannarakulkangi Pathanamthitta district in Kerala.

After my studies I was planning to go to gulf for some job .On 1997 Jan 14th I got a job & went to Saudi Arabia.

There in 1998 May 23rd I encountered a severe & fatal motor accident.

For so many days I lay unconscious in ventilator in King Fahd Hospital, Hofuf.

From there I was shifted to Al Mousawasat hospital, Dammam; and undertook treatment there for two months.

Due to head injury and spinal cord injury my whole body was paralyzed and my eyesight was lost.

It was here that I was able to regain my consciousness and was able to speak.

My body was paralyzed & I lost my eye sight .I was not able to do any thing even for my daily needs.

After many days of treatment I had to return to Kerala .

I was admitted in Pushpagiri hospital, Tiruvalla for two months.

From there I was shifted to Indo American hospital and Thrissur heart hospital for expert treatment.

But all treatment was in vain. For so many months I was bedridden then again

Finally I was shifted to Chambakara chikitsalayam for Ayurveda treatment for the next 2 years. As a result of this treatment, I am able to move parts of my body below my neck.. It was made possible for me to move in wheel chair. Even now I undertake Ayurveda treatment and Physiotherapy. Due to prayer & fellowships some changes was seen & God began to heal me. My life was submitted to Lords work. And my ayurvedic treatment was continued. due to strong prayers God began to change my state & my body condition. Lord made me to move on a wheel chair & lot of hope candled my life .During that time god gave me a gift to pray for others.

In due course of time I could attend a retreat & prayer meeting & Lord really anointed me with the holy spirit and called me foe his ministry. So many people contacted me over phone for prayer.

I was getting calls for giving speeches & messages for churches & other prayer fellowships. Wherever God took me he blessed my ministry & life abundantly.

I haven’t received my accident insurance till now. Nearly seven lakhs has been spent for treatment .All this has been made possible only by the help of God’s people.

During this time I had the privilege to attend a retreat. My heavenly father filled me with hope, anointed me with Holy Spirit and gave me the grace to intercede for others.

From 2000 onwards I started to witness Lord and preach his word in churches and prayer fellowships. I am able to help many who are suffering from diseases and facing other problems by praying for them directly and through phone.

God gave me the grace to write lyrics of so many songs to praise & worship him. I began to write it with help of others .A few of many friends & prayer partners helped me to publish a audio version In many cassettes my songs 16 have been included. I had written lyrics for prayer songs which had already being published. I had also written lyrics for songs for ST Basel Gospel Team. I have published a cassette of my own titled ‘Nithyajeevan’. It is an inspiration for many people who are in distress.

For my continuous treatment for the last 9 years an amount for nearly 30 lakhs had already spent & treatment is still continuing, lot of money is being spent even today. I did not yet got my insurance money from the concerned insurance company in Saudi Arabia. The money spend is still pending as debt because of my situation people are not asking the money back.
